While it's sad that they weren't able to keep it running, I certainly understand why it wouldn't be practical in today's litigious society (in addition to the numerous technical issues). Having an unprotected right-of-way near campgrounds and activities is just an invitation for trouble; heck, the video even showed a small child dangling off the 'other' side of the car when it stopped in the station, which would never be tolerated today. The railroad was a great and realistic addition to Fort Wilderness, but I don't think it would be practical for it to ever come back

Stupid question, but does Fort Wilderness have any recreational activities left? I saw volleyball courts and athletic fields and playgrounds and canoes paddling along canals. I also remember brochures from the 70's and 80's that heavily touted the horseback riding Fort Wilderness had. Does any of that stuff still exist? And do kids of the 21st century who travel with iPads and iPhones even bother using any of that equipment anymore?

Can you still rent a canoe or a horse or a baseball bat and mitt for a few hours at Fort Wilderness? Or is it just air conditioned mega RV's tapped into complimentary WiFi now?
