Apparently, they used to be bigger, but in order to keep the original price at 5¢, they shrunk through the years to the current small size. The company's tagline is "Buy 'em by the sack!" Yes, I learn a lot on the Food Network. Waaaaay over-rated. After hearing about White Castle for years and years, I had the opportunity to try it a few years ago. The hype has got to be rooted in nostalgia and childhood memories, because raving about them is like raving for a McDonald's hamburger. Tasty in their own way, but certainly not like a real hamburger. Buy 'em by the sack? You kinda have to, because one is about as satisfying as a single Lays potato chip.

Good Eatin'!! <<The hype has got to be rooted in nostalgia and childhood memories>> That could be part of it. White Castles have always been open 24 hours a day. In college there were many nights when we’d get a late night attack of the munchies and go to White Castle and get a bag full of Slyders!

They're actually quite handy as a microwave snack, as you can easily adjust the portion size. But they are kind of their own thing, and hard to compare with a regular hamburger.

I feel bad that people think that it's equivalent to White Castle. (I also like Spam, so you may need to take that into consideration).

Absolutely repulsive. I waited 49 years for my first White Castle and like Lisann, it made me want to hurl. I couldn't believe they were so lousy after all of the hype. Bleecchhh...
