Apparently, they used to be bigger, but in order to keep the original price at 5¢, they shrunk through the years to the current small size. The company's tagline is "Buy 'em by the sack!" Yes, I learn a lot on the Food Network.

Waaaaay over-rated. After hearing about White Castle for years and years, I had the opportunity to try it a few years ago. The hype has got to be rooted in nostalgia and childhood memories, because raving about them is like raving for a McDonald's hamburger. Tasty in their own way, but certainly not like a real hamburger. Buy 'em by the sack? You kinda have to, because one is about as satisfying as a single Lays potato chip.

    Mmmmmm...

    Good Eatin'!!

That could be part of it. White Castles have always been open 24 hours a day. In college there were many nights when we’d get a late night attack of the munchies and go to White Castle and get a bag full of Slyders!

    They aren't burgers.

    They are way greasy.

They tried opening up in California about 30 years ago and it did not work.

As icky as McDonald's is, it's better.

And, unlike almost any other hamburger chain, all of the ingredients are still real food, prepared in the store much as you might do yourself. They don't use the over-processed factory foods that most others do to reduce costs.

That's all I've ever known White Castle to be, never having lived where there are White Castle restaurants. They're actually quite handy as a microwave snack, as you can easily adjust the portion size. But they are kind of their own thing, and hard to compare with a regular hamburger.

And for the record, I really like meatloaf. I feel bad that people think that it's equivalent to White Castle. (I also like Spam, so you may need to take that into consideration).

Repulsive. Absolutely repulsive. I waited 49 years for my first White Castle and like Lisann, it made me want to hurl. I couldn't believe they were so lousy after all of the hype.

    Bleecchhh...

To the people who didn't know what they were, Haven't you seen Harold & Kumar go to White Castle? ;D

My SIL, DS and I got hooked on In/Out in Las Vegas. Count at least 3 East Coasters who love them.
