The Around Disney blog at the Orange County Register writes the kiosk at Disneyland's Downtown Disney that originally housed magazines for Compass Books and most recently sold cupcakes will be removed to accomodate better guest flow as Earl of Sandwich is scheduled to open later this summer.

When this was first announced, I was suprised that they were aiming for an early summer opening date, since that only allowed about 10 weeks for a conversion from a bookstore to a restaurant. While it's now bordering on a ridiculous changeover timeline, it's much more like what I expected. Construction projects in California are seldom speedy, due to all the extra regulations; it seems that Disney can make the process particularly slow.

It's a sandwich shop. Selling sandwiches. I'm sure they're good. But they are... sandwiches. With chips and a Coke.

I refuse to believe that a sandwich can be some sort of religious experience worthy of all this fuss. ;-)

The lines in Downtown Disney at WDW are usually as long as an attraction in the parks.

I already used mine in Vegas. Guess I will start a new one in November at WDW and hoping they are open by the Holidays in DL.

On another note the single best thing to eat at Downtown Disney is a beignet from Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen.

I recently read pumpkin is the new bacon. ANd considering the price tag is going to skyrocket on bacon, I seem to be in pumpkin search mode.

I will be honest . The only sandwich I have ever tried at the Earl is the Best Bacon with extra bacon, please!

Usually, what makes something incredible to me is when it far exceeds my expectations. I went to Earl of Sandwich not knowing anything about the place...other than it had a clever name and happened to be right there in front of me when I was ready for lunch.

Now, given the hype around this one coming to the DLR, and the delays, and the repuatation and limited locations they have in operation...the expectations are pretty high. And thus, I expect a lot of people will find it to be "overrated" or "no big deal". You can't hype something up this much in people's minds without it resulting in quite a few disappointed people who feel it did not meet their expectations.
