Does anyone here have a Performa? If so, what do you think? One that I like is that you can set it to a "night" feature so that it won't come on for 9 hours. Since I keep it in the bathroom off my bedroom, this would be nice. Ugh! I forgot how diligent you ahve to be. With the Littermaid I would need to empty/replace the receptacle about every three or four days. This was great when I was out of town for the weekend. And when I was gone for longer periods of time it made life easier on my sister-in-law who checked on and fed the cats. The receptacles are about $1 each. I think they come in a box of $20. So for me that's about $10 a month in added expenses on top of the litter. But it was well worth the convenience. You can just empty the receptacle and re-use it numerous times but I usually didn't fuss with that. The cat does his/her thing in the box. When they step into the box, sensors detect this and it will halt any action of the rake for ten minutes. This is so the cat won't be half-way into doing his/her thing and get the bejeesus scared out of them. Ten minutes later the motor starts and the rake comes across scooping everything out into the receptacle. The cats find this intriguing and even after five years would dash to the bathroom to watch it happen. However, when you think about it, cats have no concept of how the timing thing works. When they need to use the box they walk up to it and stare. It's like their little mind is thinking "If I step into this thing, will that machine thingy start up." Then they hop in and so their thing. I liked the concept of the litterworks thing but it wouldn't fit in the area where I keep the cat box. Aurora, you might be able to get away with only one cat box. However, it would probably mean you have to replace or empty the waste receptacle each day.

Labuda, my cats *miss* their electronic litter box. Ten minutes after doing their thing, it raked it all away into the receptacle. With the "manual" method, I clean the box each night before bed. In the meantime during the day, when I go in to use the bathroom, one of the cats will follow me in. Stare at the litter box. Then look at me questionningly as if to say "There's stuff in there. Aren't you going to get rid of it?"

We have 3 indoor cats and it is so much easier for us to maintain. I'm hoping the higher sides will keep more litter in. One day I expect my kid critters to come down the stairs with a siamese cat in tow they dig so much.

Once it was done, she'd go sniff at it and lay down by it. Waiting for the next time. She was obsessed and scared of it all at the same time. Then I bust my cat Nicia being evil. She would walk up on the plank, put a paw in and then dash away!!! She figured out that would trigger the sweeper. Then she'd lay on the futon by the window looking smug as Sammy went nuts. LOL - Cats are crazy.

Luckily, petsmart allowed us to return it. PHEW!<< My mom recently offered to buy one of these for my cat (her "grand-kit"), but I'm afraid Bob's reaction might be about like that. He's never really liked wind-up toys, and sometimes freaks out at loud noises. So, two questions for y'all: 1. Bob's a big boy (20+ pounds, most of it fat). Do these things come in larger sizes? 2. How loud is the motor?
