Cinderella's Golden Carrousel get a name change

Effective June 1, 2010, Cinderella's Golden Carrousel, the antique carrousel ride at the Magic Kingdom will change its name to 'Prince Charming Regal Carrousel'.

Here is the back story for the new name.

"Following their fairy-tale romance and happily-ever-after wedding, Cinderella and Prince Charming took up residence in Cinderella's Castle. With peace throughout the kingdom, Prince Charming had time to practice for jousting tournaments. In the countryside near the castle, he built a training device of carved horses, on which he could practice the art of ring-spearing, a tournament event in which a knight rides his horse full speed, lance in hand, toward a small ring hanging from a tree limb, with the object of spearing the ring. This event was known by various names throughout the lands, but generally came to be called "carrousel."

The carrousel device drew the attention of the villagers, who wanted to take a turn on this amazing spinning contraption. So Prince Charming had a second carrousel constructed closer to the Castle, where everyone could take a spin on this wondrous invention. Instead of a working knight's training device, however, this new carrousel is more befitting its regal location in the Castle Courtyard - its rustic training horses replaced with ornately decorated prancing steeds adorned with golden helmets and shields, flower garlands, feathers and other festoons. Prince Charming invites one and all to test their horsemanship skills and to enjoy their own happy ending. "

That's a lot of backstory for a carousel. How many guests will have any idea that they're supposed to know about this whole jousting thing? I suppose they could get a little bit of theming in there to help make it a little clearer, but it's still a carousel, and at the end of the day, it really won't matter.

And why does it have to be "Regal"? It always kind of bugged me that it was "Golden", but this just seems a little strange. Do they know that the don't have to have an adjective in there? At DL, it's just King Arthur Carousel, with no references to the Sword in the Stone (other than the stone out front, which hasn't had a show in a couple years) anywhere on it. Heck, the paintings are all from Sleeping Beauty. I'm just wondering why they decided the name change was nessecary. It's probably because Cinderella having a castle, banquet hall, meet and greet cottage (where does she live again??), and a carousel is a little much, but this name change is just kind of dumb.

This is Disney throwing a bone to the much ignored male demo in their upcoming FLE. The little boys are now gonna be begging their parents to take'm to PrincessLand to ride the new Prince Charming ride. Then the parents can take them to one of the shops to buy them their own set of tights and a waist coat.

And as far as backstory goes, this will be clear as day when they add the elaborate preshow building with the thematically correct overhead LCD screens with some cool CGI animation.

I'm on pins and needles waiting for more backstories. Like, where did 'stroller parking' come from? Was it needed for the mothers Prince Charming kept in his harem? C'mon Disney, I'm dying to know!

Yawn. That name is a mouthful to say (Did t hey get paid per letter?) and me thinks the carrousel is one of those names like the peoplemover that no matter what you name it it'll always be known as the carrousel.

ORDDU: Rumor has it that the Fantasyland expansion has already gone through cut backs that affect both Cinderella and Aurora. There may only be The Littler Mermaid attraction, along with the Beauty & the Beast dining facility. If so, this MIGHT be the reason behind this new focus on the carrousel.
