I'm not suggesting he should have known their latest hit song, or she should be able to identify the brothers by name -- but he doesn't even KNOW the band's existence?

What do these people do all day long in their department -- stare into space and count ceiling tiles?

I'll admit that the whole thing does sound a bit too pat to be true. Makes a good story, though, doesn't it?

(Then again, it's Borders. The clerk might have been a bookstore or cafe worker temporarily covering the record department.)
