I love the feeling I get wehn I'm there, that euphoric, happy, nostalgic, magical feeling. I love the way everything is clean and nice and pristine all the time.

    Some people don't get that.

For example, the other day at school I said that I preferred Disneyland to Disney World. The girls I was talking to didn't get it. They were like, "but Disney World has so many more rides!" I knew if I tried to explain it to them, they still wouldn't get it, so i lamely said "I just like it more." In reality, Disneyland seems more charming an magical to me, and Disney World is so big and commercialized. Believe me, I love them both, both of them have made me cry with happiness, but I prefer Disneyland. It just annoys me so much when people act like that!

    Anyone else agree?

midget3175, haven't you heard? we're all 10 years old in the park. I feel the same way you do and I have couple a couple of extra decades on you. I have no defense, but if we have to be addicted to something at least it's something that brings happiness and isn't hurting anyone. My grown kids (shudder) aren't Disney people. It's not that they don't like the park, they just don't have the same love of the park that many of us here on LP do. I can't even say that they get it from there mother because Tinkeroon is easily as addicted as I am. I just wish our son wouldn't refer to us as D-tards.

Goofyernmost, I do, I always get a thrill out of meeting someone who shares the same love of the park I do.

I know a grand total of ONE other DisneyDork at my school. Thanks goodness he's on my bus. If he weren't I'd be very very sad. One day I was sitting next to a friend of mine (not disney obsessed) and fellow DD was in front of me. I was talking to fellow DD and my friend next to me is like, "You're really that obsessed with disney?" I realized then that I really don't talk about Disney that much with other people that arent DD's. Sure, I'll say like, "Oh, I love disney!" And I've made it clear that I'm obsessed, but I never talk about new rides and stuff when my non-obsessed friends are around.

I find it SO mich easier to find things to talk about with other Disney addicts than I do with people that aren't!
I have only been going to DL since 2002. I live on the East coast and everyone I know goes to WDW. I'm like you, I like DL so much more. The last time I was in WDW was 1999. I felt like I was being taken advantage of at every corner of the place. The charm wasn't there like it is at DL.

Actually, I think many if not most people have some sort of obsession. Some are more "mainstream," like football, or NASCAR, others like Star Trek, or tattoos, not so much. Whatever it is that excites you, I can guarantee others don't understand... and it works both ways. Even within each obsession, there are degrees of fandom that others who share it don't understand. I like Star Trek, for instance (that's how I came up with my screen name). In the Trekkies movies about Star Trek fandom, they talk to fans about obsession, and whether or not some take it too far or too seriously. I've certainly been to conventions where some people seems a little "off" to me. Same thing with Disney people; I've met some that, for lack of a better word, were a bit nuts. BUt overall, it's all good... we're just having fun.

For me, Disneyland is a great escape. Even though I live in OC, I don't get there all that often, but when I'm there, it does take me back to being a kid again. It's a lot of fun. It's innocent. It's clean. And it puts me in a good mood. No one will deny that we need a little of that in this world.
As for obsession? I wouldn't call it so much an obsession.
I think the only thing I obsess over at this point in my life is USC football! In fact, I've been looking at new Toyotas, and passed up on an '08 Highlander today because it was almost exactly the same shade of blue that is UCLA's school color.
I know, that is obsessive to almost pathological levels! :)
As for Disney...well, I love Disney.
Is it an obsession? Perhaps not, but I do love everything it represents. The movies, the park (DL). It's all good! I wouldn't have worked there for 10 years had I not found it to be a purely joyful place.

Really? I didn't realize that we had met! :)

Seriously folks...it is hard to find someone to go on and on about it with. Much to my surprise when I started working were I am now, there were about 35 employees. One of the employees had a vanity license plate the read..DISNEY1.

Turns out that his obsession with WDW is something even I can't understand. Four trips a year, one week at a time, driving from Vermont. That's 3000 miles round trip for just about 4 days in the World. I'm afraid that this is way more then I would even consider. Oh,well...he makes my love of the place seem pretty tame.

MadaboutMickey- I was in a similar situation with my DH. We went to dinner with a couple and the husband works for Disney and is a big Disney fan. He and I talked and talked and talked. After dinner my DH looked at me a little differently. He said "I knew you liked Disney, but I didn't realize HOW much you liked disney"

She(the bartender) was so bored she really wanted this person to leave. Then, the bartenders' boyfriend bought the girl a drink, so she stayed and kept talking about it. She, (the Btender) said to her boyfriend at the end of the night, "Why did you do that?" Couldn't you tell I wanted her to leave?" lol Well, my Disneybud and I said "All you needed to do was call one of us!" We'd have loved that conversation, told her how she could afford it, and then some!
