It was amazing to be so close but we got REALLY wet and we couldn't see most of the projected animated images. The second time we saw the show it was during the first showing (9:00) and we were in the middle of the red section. The view of the show was much superior except for a projector partly blocking our view. In terms of time standing, waiting for the show for the first showing was much worse (we were in the viewing area for a full ninety minutes before the show started and there was really no way to sit down or lean on anything). For the second show we were held in the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail for about thirty minutes (9:00 to 9:30) and then we were walked out to the viewing area for about a forty-five minute wait; all and all a more comfortable situation. So my advice to WOC viewers: line up about 11:30 and you will probably get the second show, don't go to the very front area if it is offered to you and if you can figure out a way to make it happen get seating in the yellow section which is about dead center of show's projections and foundations (the orange and blue sections looked to be almost as good as the yellow section).

I'd love to hear your comments on my tips and your tips as well.

    Thanks,

Does getting a picnic meal allow you to pick the section of the viewing area that you will be in? Do you line up (or wait) in a different area than you do if you get a fast pass?

I do think how early you line up for the show, and how carefully you select your spot, makes a big difference to how happy you'll be with your view.

I'm curious if there's a color section for Picnics, or they just get random FastPasses?

It is pretty costly for a family tho :(

If it's just a meal with a random FP, then I doubt I'll do it, but if they put you in a section without hours of standing and waiting, it's worth it. There are so many topics on WOC, maybe this questions already been answered.

So, they got in the preferred viewing, I believe slightly after we did, and had what looked to be a decent meal. I can't vouch for how it tasted, but at least you have a rough idea of where they wound up.

So, the preferred viewing area is different than the various "colored" areas you get with a FP?

Did you do the other dining option, or is there some other way to get into the preferred area?
Again, my apologies if this was discussed on another thread. :)

Disney makes a distinction that Diners get Preferred Reserved, and Picnics get Reserved. I think that may have been a fluke, or maybe there were a few Blue spots left over b/c the Dining Packages weren't sold out that day? We saw people with Picnic passes waiting to get in Orange (my DD noticed the passes, so I can ask her for more details). But your best bet may be to call Disney Dining to see if they can answer you, unless someone else chimes in here.

The meal was just ok. For 9:00 show be there at beginning of FP time, 7:30. At 8:15 we were in the back-behind kids on parents shoulders and a tree.

I tried the Taste of Asia and the Antipasto. I liked them both, and found they were satisfying, but not overwhelming. The meal includes a beverage.

    No.

    >>Do you line up (or wait) in a different area than you do if you get a fast pass?<<
You are mixed into the regular reserved.

But no one has said it's just a "random" FastPass.
