It was only about a 5 minute walk to the entrance to downtown disney, and it was a pleasant and interesting walk through DTD with several stops to check out pin trading watch the 'pulse' fountain, and smash a penny at the world's largest Disney Store. In the end, we had to wait at security for about 3-4 minutes before the tram bound portion of our group caught up, so it certainly took no longer, was much more diverting and gave us at least the flavoring of not following the herd.

Even if they do, they probably want to save their feet since they will already experience plenty of walking and standing on their feet once they get inside. As for making the tram into a themed attraction, if they did such a thing, they would or should probably charge for it, like they used to do with the monorail. Otherwise, some people might be inclined to ride it "for free." Can you imagine locals clogging up the free tram ride, while paying customers are using it as transportation?
