I haven't cared for the unbalanced introduction of so much Pixar into the parks (but WDA isn't putting out much product, are they?), or character based attractions in general, but this is a very good sign. I think this is a good indication of what Lasseter can get done.

I remember when The Country Bear Jamboree opened at DL in 1972 and all the hype about it. There were full size newspaper inserts, etc. (I still have mine). One of the biggest points was that the CBJ could be reprogrammed, and we would be seeing new shows all the time. Well, the CBJ did not change until 1984 when the Christmas Special was introduced (DL's first Christmas overlay?). 12 years! It changed only once more when the CBJ was replaced with the Vacation Hoedown in 1986. I'll save my opinions on those rotten, stinky, weak replacements for another topic. Wait, maybe I don't have to now.

Anyway, TSMM has been open less than 2 years and they are living up to their promise of having a reprogrammable attraction that would change periodically. If this is what I can expect from Pixar/Character based attractions, I can take it - but please no more than what's already in the pipeline.

Either way, you're sitting there yanking on a cord to shoot stuff on a screen. Whether it's a dinosaur or a sheep makes practically no difference.

Yes - it's nice that the attraction can alter it's showscenes quickly and easily, and even have seasonal overlays. But it's still just a varition of the same thing.

    No biggie.

You mean like going to a movie theatre and it's just a box with a screen - every time you go, it's basically the same. You go see Ironman, or Dragon, or Avatar. It's just a variation of the same thing?

Take for instance ... the voices for the AAs on Pirates of the Caribbean.

The excitement is not a different script the AAs speak .. every time you visit PotC. It's the overall "3D" environment is what fully catches your senses.

Midway Mania unlike PotC is not a fully immersive 3D environment. Its' reliant on a series of Large "TV screens" ... with the aid of 3D glasses to MIMIC a fully rounded 3D environment.

Midway Mania is fine in it's own right ... and for those heavily into computer graphic games.

For me ... there's a "same"ness in stuff like that.

And it can never be a substitute for rides for HM, PotC, Indy, etc.

Little Mermaid should be the animatronic Omnimover musical spectacular that DCA has been missing since day one.

But really, from the point of view of someone who rides maybe 4 or 5 times a year, it's basically the same thing - pulling the cord and shooting the stuff on screen while racking up points. I don't really care if it's darts hitting balloons or rings over alien's heads. The concept is the same. But again, variety is cool, and I don't want to be pooh-poohing thier efforts. To read some threads about this you'd think they put in a whole new scene in Pirates while somehow not taking out an existing scene. Now THAT would be amazing!

It doesn't fit your pre-conceived notion of what a Disney attraction should be (meaning only a Pirates of the Caribbean type of attraction) such that nothing less is acceptable. No matter how well it is made.
Because it is not stuffed full of AA figures does not mean it is not a good attraction. Frankly, I think all you armchair imagineers are jealous.
Do us a favor, if you don't like it, quit going to the parks so that the rest of us can enjoy it.

I find the best attractions are those in artificial environments with full size "3D" sets. Laden in a variety of multi media effects.

I think a good example would be TDL's Pooh ... and some of the best in DisneySea. Disneyland's former ATIS .. are among just a few examples.

I think there's nothing wrong with Midway Mania. The changout of the games is fine. It's just that not all of us born into this X-Box/Wii Era think "video gaming" is the center of the universe for theme park attractions.

Not everything has to be "E Ticket/PotC" ... but the observations in this topic so far are merely saying - "target practice" from one similar game to another isn't something to get too excited to. But it is a nice thought, when WDI is so laxxed on updating attractions in general.

And it just brings up an interesting question that would make an interesting poll.

Are attractions that rely heavily on projection screens a better attraction to those with fully realized environments?

But you are going just a little too far with tagging these stereotype assertions to us .. and I'm not appreciating it at all.

I don't know what a "fanboi" is exactly.

But it's been thrown around enough by other posters to mean something negative, and not nice at all.

If I'm "trapped in the 60s" .. it's because that era offered better attractions!

And if you want to be a defender to today's more mediocre offerings .. you are free to do so.

    Jealous of what?
Do tell me .. what am I suppose to be jealous of?

    An armchair imagineer?
I hate "idea" topics. Micechat is notorious for them. I ignore them 98% of the time. Only "armchairing" I get into .. are Disney's own ideas.

What "diatribes on the re-imagineering site"?

I don't know what site you are talking about.

Can't somebody have a rational conversation that you may not agree with .. without throwing nasty, made up statements, that aren't true?
