Originally Posted By trekkeruss <<Ease up, it's limited to only 500...thats pretty significant>> I guess. I used to think that way, but I don't anymore. I mean, I don't care if it's limited, and that I might miss out. There will always be things that I will miss out on, because I will never have enough money. So I've learned to enjoy things, without feeling the need to own them.

Originally Posted By trekkeruss <<I look at it as an investment...Hopefully it will pay for itself down the line considering the socalled limited edition of five hundred>> I don't want to sound preachy, but you should not look at any of this stuff as an investment. Get it because you want it, not because you hope it'll pay for itself many times over. The chances are razor slim that that will happen. <<But I am sitting in a house full of stuff that has some value to it...The only problem is finding people that are willing to pay the actual value of the items>> See above. <<I will sell something off>> I bet I have more stuff I need to sell than you do. And I don't mean to sound smug either.

I was merely relating my own personal experiences with collecting... and debt.

I have sold a lot of stuff on ebay and I still have many items I look at today and say " what was i thinking" Now occasionally you do get something that skyrockets, but then do you really want to sell it. I puchased a production cell, with the 2 accompanying pencil drawings from the movei Snoopy Come Home... was in California and attended a very rare signing by Charles Schulz - who signed both drawings and the cell - personalized the drawings.and original background art..( also signed by Melendez) - - and the three were then custom framed. At the time $1500 seemed off the hook, today...well that is a different story - Most production cells for Charlie Brown early TV shows ( Great Pumpkin and Christmas) - as well as the movies were destroyed in a fire/ water damage etc- a long time ago -- I am not so sure I see the 'life size' Mickey in that realm, I see it more in the realm of my Disney Classics first year....because it this thing sells, they willmake more, and being Disney- lot's more. I see more 'potential value' in items that are rarer than a LE of 500.... just my 2 cents...

These figures are sculpted by a computer program and robot, not an artist. They are hand painted, sure, but I'm not sure that is enough to stand the test of time in terms of lasting value. I think they're cute. I've been tempted to buy a couple, but ultimately I usually take a pass. If these were sculpted in wood, bronze, or something more durable I might take the leap and spend some big bucks.

I actually like some of the Disney store figurines being sold on Disney Auctions right now. I'm not sure if they're worth the price, or if their condition is all that great, but they seem a little more unique than some of the stuff that is being retailed on disneyshopping.com.
