In My Opinon, this is part of the initiative to put HK as the hub of tourist destination in the Pearl River Delta Region. Macau is alreay on its way to become the Las Vegas of Asia (even bigger than Las Vegas in terms of revenue from gambling), and Zhuhai is in the process of transforming into a tourist/business conference destination with the investment from The Venetian of Las Vegas. To further strengthen the position of Hong Kong, that's why Ocean Park is willing to spend at least HK$5.5 billion in redevelopment. Hong Kong is going to host the East Asian games in 2009, The Olympian Equestrian Event in 2008, pre-olympian equestrain event in 2007. Redevelopment of the Kai Tak airport site (old airport site) into a Cruise Terminal, the development of West Kowloon project to turn HK into a 1st class Museum/Cultural Centre. So stay tuned !!!

Thanks for sharing that assesment.

You don't build a park with meager offerings compared to your competitor unless you thought it didn't matter. DCA can't even muster to beat KBF at its game a lot of the times, so whatever it takes for healthy competition . Also, its cool Hong Kong is just improving in general. As a guest, I always thought HK had PLENTY to offer for most foreign guests now, Disney park or not, but I'm glad its thinking towards the future and will keep me coming to visit it every year regardless of how much I like HKDL.

Man, I would've planned the whole thing out and we could've been hanging together, done HK AND Macau together, but you wait until AFTER I go to go....hmm, I see what's going on here. And yes, I been to Macau and from what I can remember, you can pretty much play any game like Vegas (but don't quote me on 'all' ).

If you win a big hand, they even help themselves to a tip out of your winnings without even looking up, and they would not be caught dead with a smile on their faces. And as far as I can tell, this is not an ante or mandatory tip, but something optional. Comparing it to Las Vegas, the best way I can describe it is that the old-school Macau gambling seems oriented toward hard-core gamblers, as opposed to Las Vegas which is more about entertainment with a gambling focus (even if the only entertainmnent you partake in is at the tables). They're developing a new resort area in Macau that's more modeled after Las Vegas. That's where the Sands is, and is run by the guy that runs The Venetian in LV. It offers something much closer to what Las Vegas has to offer, with the added bonus that there's a higher proportion of table games to slot machines than in Las Vegas. I've not seen the Sands in person myself, but I almost made a side trip out there when I was in HK for DL's opening. It sounds like that new resort area is going to have 3 more LV-style resorts opening in the next few years, but the Sands is the first one, and it's there now.
