When we didn't have the car we either dropped them off in the room or put them in the back pack with our water bottles. They weigh almost nothing so they are hardly a burden to "drag around". For us they are worth it. I rarely buy my son sodas so he feels like he's getting a special vacation treat when we have the cups and he's allowed to fill his with his drink of choice and it keeps him from bugging me about buying sodas in the parks (Poweraide is another issue altogether).

I go to WDW on a budget and I shop at Walmart Anyways we spend a lot of time at the resort pools, and other items at the resort, which is why we go to the moderate resort, and I love saving hte money. That money saved is money towards another disney world vacation. We have 2 mugs so far and will of course buy 1 more next trip.
