It definitely feels like a riff on Turtle Talk's interactivity to me, so I wonder if that attraction will continue to operate after this opens. I also wonder what the height limit will be for this, since it seems to be geared toward young children, who are very much not the target audience of StormRider

I can hear some Japanese executive on a remote video call telling the Imagineers in Burbank that the the vehicle design needs to be 'cuter'. *sigh* Is anyone else kind of bothered by how OLC seems to be dumbing down TDS? Am I overreacting or is the park shifting away from its original design, even if just ever so slightly?

But on THIS particular one, not so much, only because Stormrider really did kinda suck. And so far, they haven't removed any of the original attractions save Mermaid and Sindbad reboots (jury still out, but I tend to think the originals were cooler), but I can only assume that's somewhere around the corner. For now, it's just the additions that are cute for the sake of cuteness (Toy Story Land is the biggest culprit, but it's also the most popular zone in the park so we're obviously outnumbered), and no, I don't really like it. Not one little bit. *sigh*

EPCOT was much the same, and over the decades they've managed to hobble that giant, so that makes me nervous about the future. For now, DIsneySea is still at least close to the incredible experience it was when the park opened almost 15 years ago.

The stuff that has been added to the park since opening does seem to have moved it in the wrong direction, IMO. Even TOT, which is incredible, seems to focus a little too much on the cutesy idol, rather than the real-world exploration themes. On the bright side, so far all of the additions have been executed incredibly well (look at TDS's TSMM compared to the US versions) and for the most part seem to fit relatively well into their respective areas So far, the biggest offender for me is Turtle Talk in the American Waterfront; it just doesn't make sense. Similarly, I struggle to see how this new attraction will fit into Port Discovery. Both probably fall into the category of "better than what was there before", though they also seem to fit into the category of things that dumb down the park. I'm not a fan of using IP everywhere possible, so TDS's use of broad themes really appealed to me. Given that OLC is required to use the Disney licensing regardless, it makes sense for them to make the most of it and use as many characters as possible, but that doesn't mean that I have to like it
