I grew up near Silver Dollar City, an 1800's themed theme park near Branson, MO, and every weekend, my dad would take me out there, so we knew most of the people who worked there, especially the actors.

There were just so many little things on my 10th that made it perfect. Our friend Sylvia gave me a collection of Grimm's Fairy Tales she and another actor had bought me. She had taken me to the book store in SDC a few weeks before to look around, but I didn't know she was scouting for possible presents. Later that day, she took me on The Lost River, one of the water rides where you get soaked, and she was in her full Sarie Ellen McCoy costume! (She often did that with me, riding the water rides in full costume; I never knew how she didn't get in trouble, lol).

Another friend of ours, Terry, took me to the teddy bear store on Main Street and bought me a little teddy bear hair tie. Later that day, he picked me to be one of the kids selected in one of the audience participation skits.

At the end of the day, when they were doing the closing ceremony, my dad and I were talking to our friend Ed who was guarding the rope by the cannons (they used to fire off cannons to signify the end of the day) when I accidentally dropped my teddy bear hair tie. Ed grabbed them off the ground and shouted, "Mouth to snout resussitation!!" and proceeded to perform CPR on those little teddy bears until they were okay.

Just the thought of it now brings a huge grin to my face because Ed usually played the villian, Mean Murphy, in the saloon show and was a stout guy with a full beard. To see this big, burly guy performing CPR on teddy bear hair ties was just fantastic and was a perfect end to a wonderful birthday.

I woke up on that day burning up with a fever and feeling like I might die. My mom told me she wasn't sure what to do; my friends had arranged through her to pick me up early for school to take me to breakfast, and to show me some surprises at the school.

They had gone to the school at 5:00am in the SNOW to put up huge birthday banners they'd made, balloons everywhere, and decorations all over my locker.

SO, I went ahead and got ready to go, and they did pick me up to take me to breakfast. I couldn't eat; just sipped some OJ.

They took me to school and showed me all the wonderful things they'd done. It really meant the world to me - I couldn't believe they would go to so much trouble!! I had to quickly turn around and go home, though; I was too weak to stay.

At lunchtime they had gotten sparkling cider to "celebrate" and one of their moms had ordered pizza. They had to celebrate without me, though. I was sick in bed with the start of a really bad case of pneumonia. It was the sickest I'd ever been in my life! I missed two straight weeks of school.

Anyway, I have had better birthdays, but to know my friends would bend over backwards like that for me REALLY warmed my heart.

I hope I get to see them at my 20-yr reunion this August!

Also, my 17th birthday, because it was, unbeknownst to us, the last birthday I'd still have my Daddy - he was home with us for a couple extra days (he worked 400 miles away and was usually only home on weekends), but just having spent that little bit of extra time with my Daddy was just wonderful.

Also, my 25th birthday, as that's the day my future husband and my Mom met. :)

When we left I asked if we had time to go home and let me change, since I had been working with children all day. He told me no b/c we had to get to Dallas to an Italian restaurant that his co-workers told him about. As we got closer to Dallas my hubby decided to get off the highway and on to the service road. He said it was so, we could look for the restaurant with out getting ran over. Without me knowing it, he pulled into a parking lot and into a spot. I tried to get my hubby to move b/c at this point I was not happy with him and impatient (b/c he wouldn't let me go home and change.) He said that we were here. I knew I hadn't seen a sign for an Italian restaurant. He pointed at the really big sign that I had somehow missed when we pulled in. We were at Medieval Times. I had been asking for him to take me there for over 5 years.

My absolute best birthday was my 23rd. I spent in the hospital b/c I had given birth to my youngest DS on January 8, just two days before mine. My hubby brought a cake and all the nurses on the floor came into the room. They couldn’t light the candles while they sang the “Happy Birthday Song†(I HATE when people sing that song to me. I hate to be the center of attention.). One of the nurses happened to have a lighter and at the end of the song, she lit it so I could make my birthday wish.

The black strip stuff you put underneath your eyes to take the glare from the sun away was running down my face. My teammates were bummed I was humiliated. We had a great time that night at a pizza parlor, even the penguin came afterwards. LOL! I still crack up, you really had to be there.

    2. My 40th! I decided I'd travel this particular year. Numbers don't really mean anything to me when it comes to age, it's how you feel and what you've done that matter to me. However, everyone kept saying - wow, you're gonna be 40. I was starting to feel weird that I was A. not bothered and B. I wasn't doing anything special. So I took a bunch of mini-trips that year. All of them have special meanings. My weekend in Vegas with ALL my girl cousins. What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas but seeing Gladys Knight was beyond awesome!!!! We sat at the stage, I mean I literally had my arms on the stage and I got to sing Every Beat Of My Heart with her. OMG! Heaven, pure heaven. My trip to Disneyland with my mom, sister, godmom and a couple cousin -we did it first class and just had the best time. New York to see old friends, one of which treated me to a fabulous dinner and interesting time. :> There were a few other weekend adventures that year.

    3. My 18th and 13th - spent at Candlestick Park at Giant's games. Name on the scoreboard, the whole nine yards. For me - a perfect day. Me and baseball.

My favorite recent birthday was my 36th. I was at work most of the day. All of the guys I work with took me to lunch where we had two or three margaritas each. One guy picked up the tab for everyone (over 18 people were there). We went back to work and things were fine. One of my mixers' job was shut down due to creative conflicts, so he took me back to the restaurant for one more shot. We had the nicest conversation and then somehow I ended up at work and was driven home. I had a surpise dinner that night with my husband at Shanghai Red's (my favorite restaurant outside of Club 33) and we had the best beef dish ever. Even though he had already given me a gift, he presented me with the loveliest sapphire and pearl and diamond ring, which is one of favorite pieces of jewelry. The next day, one of the VP's paid for the taxi to take me into work (since I had to leave my car at work since no one would let me drive).

My favorite older birthday was my 16th. I got contact lenses and my sister rented a limo that took us to see Quiet Riot at the Forum.
