And while "my list" is far different from this self proclaimed Geek Dad's list, it still begs the question of what movies do you think your kids MUST see?

So in light of the article, and being this is a wonderful Disney discussion... anyone willing, please plop down a list of 5 or 10 movies that you think are MUST SEE's for your children. I'll go first.

To me, this movie has a great underlying message of self reliance, adventure, and big time empathy.

3.) Snowhite and the 7 Dwarves

    4.) Back to the Future
A wonderful "what if" scenario that prompts a lot of thinking.

    5.) The Lion King

    I'll stop there.

Some of my elementary teachers thought this was cool and would then engage me in conversation.

I think what she did was very cool as it got us talking about different things in life and she shared her viewpoints with me:

    I Remember Mama
    A Tree Grows In Brooklyn
    The Grapes of Wrath
    Giant
    Imitation of Life
    Giant
    To Kill A Mockingbird
    The Glenn Miller Story
    Mr. Smith Goes To Washington
    It's A Wonderful Life
    Splendor In The Grass
    Old Yeller
    Mary Poppins
    Meet Me In St. Louis
Journey To The Center of the Earth (old)
    Citizen Kane
    A Night At the Opera

Those are off the top of my head.

Any of the old Ray Harryhausen movies like 20 Million Miles to Earth, Jason and the Argonauts.

The recent 2002(?) live action version of Peter Pan is a must see.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The very underrated Matilda.

If some of your kids are old enough to handle some of themes Bridge to Terabithia was a well made kids film.

The Express about Ernie Davis the first Black man to win the Heisman is worth seeing for some kids around 11.

    Few more thoughts:
    Oklahoma
    Annie
Arsenic & Old Lace (for an older kid, maybe 7 or 8 on; one of my faves as a kid & still)
just about any Abbott & Costello movie
Doctor Dolittle (the original, 1967 version)
    Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

Of course! ;-) There should always be movies to scare the kids a bit. That's what made kids movies in the 80s so great. Well, except Gremlins. That should never have been marketed as a family film when it came out! My dad took me, thinking it was a cute, neat little movie, and he had to take me out when the gremlins started popping out of their cocoons at the pool. **shudder** Still haven't gotten around to watching that one yet, though I do have it, lol.

When I was a kid I loved Dean Martin/Jerry Lewis so I have netflixed "Hollywood or Bust" to watch with my kids. Here's hoping they like it!
