Just to set the scene: I got a call from my brother (who works in the cinema biz) that he can get me into a screening at 6:30 this evening, so after much rescheduling I manage to get to London with about 20 minutes to spare! It was an industry showing with quite a lot of the nearby seats reserved for BVI employees. I was glad that I hadn't had any advance warning otherwise I may have made more of an effort and ended up dressed like a u k fanboy. I'll save that for next weekend with the family. In fact despite seeing the film already I have 2 showings scheduled in for then as part of my POTC extravaganza!

Anyway, the bit you've been (hopefully) waiting for. The film was excellent. It was great how they got the old gang back together. I want to say more, but won't.

Of the new characters introduced into the film my favorite was Tia Dalma, although Davy Jones is ace - I still can't shake off that Dr Zoidberg feeling though!

I'll have to check it out on repeated viewings, but a few of the key plot points did seem a little vague. I'd be interested to hear the views of someone who was spoiler free, unlike me!

The action scenes were great, every bit as good as anything in the last film and the final battle is excellent. There is so much more I want to say, but again I want to keep this spoiler free.

Of the existing characters I really enjoyed the way they are going with Elizabeth, especially later in the film. I predict that will be big in part 3.

And Captain Jack Sparrow. What can I say? I nearly applauded when I first heard his name, that would have been embarrasing! From his first scene in the movie to his last he is pure class. His entrance isn't quite as grand as last time, but it's still awesome! Again, I want to say more but can't.

And the ending, what a cliff hanger - and also different from what I'd heard, so don't believe everything you've read.

But that does bring me onto the only downside to the movie, there's no satisfying conclusion. There's no getting away from the fact that this always feels like Part One of a two-parter. Despite an ending with enough swash to get even the hardiest buckler, we don't get that triumphant feeling that we want from the end of a movie like this. I've always felt that movies like this such as Back to the Future part 2 suffer from the same problem. It is only a minor niggle, though.

With a healthy dose of inside jokes, a battalion full of laughs, and enough action to sink a (Pirate) Ship, you won't be disappointed with this film.

I can't wait to see it again!!!

Thanks again

It’s not really a surprise as such (ie I don’t think it will have relevance to the third film) as a continuation of a part of the story... and it’s funny!!

I'm seeing it again tomorrow afternoon (is it wrong that I took the day of work just to go see it?) so I'll keep an ear open!

I would say that if a child can handle Harry Potter he can handle this. Davy's crew I feel are less intimidating than the last bunch of cursed Pirates, imho!!!

Even Johnny Depp as the estimable Capt. Jack Sparrow is forced below deck in the wake of towering waves of spectacle and noise. As for cohorts Orlando Bloom as swish-buckling Will Turner and Keira Knightley as his fiercely independent betrothed, they’re given so little to do they seem like stowaways on a rapidly sinking blockbuster.<<
