Everybody's got "something" in the closet that's stylish and maybe even a bit over the top. What a fun idea to encourage people to 'spiffy up' for a day and promenade around.

I even love the name - "Dapper Day". Too cool.

I have noticed not very many pictures have been posted on LP of all the recent themed weekends. I was there for Chinese New Year themed weekend and I did not post any.Funny that the recent Flower&Garden has pics but our DL posters have not been posting much. What's up? Where are the locals? We want pics of the construction walls all over the place please!

It might yet. My impression is that each of those started small and grew.

Oh, I don't know about that. Remember this scene?

George Castanza: "What exactly is 'smart casual'?"

Jerry Seinfeld: "I don't know, but you don't have it!"

That about sums up my wardrobe.

Yup! In our old family home movies (from the 60's) you can clearly see this. Suits and ties, stylish dresses, etc.

I still would not have considered myself dressed up compared to work or a dress up meal, but we sure got funny looks.

Same thing when we dressed up for the Napa Rose and had time to ride Soarin' before dinner. People looked at us like we were wierd.

And yet I have gone to DLP in black tie, and nobody flinched. Lol

The thing is, back then that wasn't really dressing up per se. Women wore dresses and pearls and heels and hats and gloves, and that was just considered being put together. That was how you dressed when you left the house. Most women back then would never have stepped out to a public place dressed in jeans and tennis shoes.

I wish I was down there for this...it sounds really fun!

I remember an episode of I Love Lucy where Ethel said something to the effect of "I'm not riding the subway in blue jeans!" That apparently would have been totally out of the question for a proper housewife in 1950's NYC.

You'd fit right in at TDR. Oftentimes you see groups of businessmen in suits, presumably on a work related outing.

I feel sorry for the poor saps in the summertime, it's brutal (not to mention rather silly) to walk around all day in the hot sun wearing a business suit! Yikes.

Yep. My own parents dressed like that (well, no gloves or pearls for Mom) our first few trips. I even remember our first trip to Knotts where Dad said something like "I guess you don't have to dress for this place, like you do for Disneyland."

I wouldn't go that far. I recall in SoCal in the 60's that lots of women wouldn't "dress up" to go to the grocery store, etc. But they would dress up for more "special" ocassions: eating out at a restaurant, going to the movies, etc.
