Exactly why would I want to pay double the normal price to either do things we regularly do (eat out etc) or buy things for DH when I can get him a gift any other day of the year just because?!?!

    Valentine's day... Pah...

DH and I don't do anything for V-day.

    I second the Pah!

One good thing though, my dd got 1/2 of one of those HUGE Sam's Club cupcakes. She only took a couple of bites and brought the rest home and OH MY, it is the best cupcake EVER! I want those for my birthday!!! YUM!

Okay, back to hating Valentine's Day.

Count me in! ! My DH is an incurable romantic but I rank this Hallmark holiday right along with the CocaCola Santa.
We are having everyone, kids and grandkids alike, over for brunch. There will be too much food and I did get the makings for Mamosas but no gifts or candies or cards. YUCK

And it really irks me that the florists double the price of flowers for Valentine's Day. That is just greedy and mean!

DH and I were married on Valentine's Day, not because it was our favorite holiday at all. But we wanted a February wedding, and Feb. 14th happened to be on a Saturday that year. And I figured he would never be able to forget our anniversary. It seemed kinda romantic back then (28 years ago!) but now it seems kinda sappy.
He has been gone 5 years now, but the DS's and I always celebrate anyway.

The whole concept just seems artificial and pointless to me. So forced. I would so much rather give and receive surprise tokens of love throughout the year than do a big Valentine's Day thing. And I loathe the expectations, and the fact that retailers take advantage of those expectations by jacking up the prices on flowers and so forth.

So we'll be "celebrating" the holiday the way we always do. . . we bought cards for each other and a small gift for the kids (fun coupon books from Hallmark that entitle the kid to all sorts of creative privileges and small treats). Other than that, it's just a regular day.

How funny is it to watch those macho guys and some not so macho trying to find a card or flowers or candy or jewelry for their sweetheart? They are mostly too cute in their efforts to impress.

    And I'm single.
