    I remember a discussion awhile back that some people (including me) had issues getting some batteries through airport screening. Be aware that there is now an official policy dealing with lithium batteries. You can't even put loose batteries in your CHECKED bagagge.

    The new policy applies only to lithium batteries, but I expect some security people won't pay attention and confiscate all types.

    I doubt that you will see many batteries being confiscated in carry-on bags. The exceptions, as written, cover pretty much all consumer-device batteries. The main case where people are likely to run into problems are if they try to carry more than one spare battery per device.

    It prevents the contacts from accidentally touching a metal object, which would lead to a short circuit and cause the battery to get really hot.
