We both find it disquieting, even though we feel perfectly safe. We simply prefer the comfort of each other's presence. With Mom it felt like something was "missing" in the household, and that things would get "back to normal" when she got back. With Dad, I felt a little more wary because as a 6 foot 4 conservative no-nonsense farmin' man, he was always the big strong "security" presence there. I just always felt safe with him around (not to mention he had those huntin' guns in the closet, lol). Then when my older sister went away to college, it was extremely weird---I didn't expect it to hit me as hard as it did, and I realized at 14 that I actually, like, "missed" her, lol.
