    The 2001 Disney Legends Awards were presented on December 5, 2001. Honorees included Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, Bob Broughton, George Bruns, Frank Churchill, Leigh Harline, Fred Joerger, Marty Sklar, and Tyrus "Ty" Wong. Bob Thomas was presented with a special award in recognition of the numerous he has written about the Disney family and company.

    I am so pleased to see Howard Ashman's name on this list. His contributions almost single-handedly resurrected the animated musical artform. Can you imagine how different the films that followed would have been if he had lived?

    Also very happy to see Alan Menken, who's work often gets taken for granted.

    And classic Disney songwriters George Bruns, Leigh Harline, Frank Churchill and Ned Washington, honors long overdo.

    They sure made up for Tim Allen last year ...
