An AOL Parent Dish column on the sexiness of Disney's Tinker Bell has sparked a firestorm of debate. The columnist acknowledges that the modern Tinker Bell herself is not anymore sexy than she was in the classic animated feature but reports others concerns that since she is now marketed to little girls she has become part of the images that are forcing little girls to become too sexy too soon. In the column the author perpetuates the myth that Tinker Bell was modeled after sexy icon Marilyn Monroe. Disney fans know that the lovely Margaret Kerry who still delights fans with stories of working with Marc Davis was the reference model for the curvaceous pixie.

Yeah, that's right. Her anatomy is bustin' out all over the place, like a Brittany Spears music video. 8^P

I don't believe Tink wears makeup or a push-up bra. And I don't see Manalo Blahnik spikes on her dainty little toes, either. That's the image these parents should be concerned about, perpetuated by the preschool beauty pageant set. Tinker Bell ain't that.

<--- Now waiting for the complaints over Pocahontas' skimpy little animal skin to begin.

Although, I have seen shirts before with her on them, made in little girl sizes, that say things like "big flirt" or something on them, and she'll be posed a bit provocatively. I don't see why anyone would want their 5 year old wearing THAT.

Look at these disgusting dolls. Yes, they are real dolls marketed and sold to children, I've seen them all in stores.

That said, there are scores of too-sexy shirts for little girls that do not feature any disney characters. These shirts were common and popular long before Disney started putting Tink or anybody else on 'em.

Disney has changed her personality over the years...just to sell merchandise. Not very cool but...I've bought some of it. Love the red dress merch. LOL

Her new version, which seems to be marked more toward kids, is a lot more tame an innocent. In a world where they've sanatized characters like Mickey Mouse to the point that they're as interesting as a slice of bread, I'm glad that Tink has been able to keep a little bit of her edge.

I agree! I've always thought that. This Tinkerbell character has undergone an image makeover to challenge even that of Newt Gingrich! ;)
