I have been to WDW a billion times, both with and with-out other people who know the parks. I understand how frustrating it can be for some families who have know idea what they are doing when they come here. I hear people all the time on the buses and monorails trying to figure out what park TOT is in, or why they couldn't find spiderman at the Disney Studios. I think the unoficial guides and QA forums like this are one of the best resourses for wait-times, closures, characters, crowds, dining, and shows and disney realizes that and they are trying to cash in on that. I am a huge disney fanatic and I am hoping I will have a chance to test one of these out (I am gonna go tomorrow). However, I think they should just improve MPM a little if they were gonna do anything at all. I am sure a lot of you noticed how many people both with and with-out kids walk around with one.

Personally, I don't think I would want to carry around a Nintendo DS around the parks with me all day - those things are quite large. I think Disney would be better off coming up with a system that could integrate with people's cell phones -- at least that way I wouldn't have to carry around another device. They could even charge a small service fee for accessing their system, which I'm sure a lot of people would be willing to pay for up to the minute wait times, or even a way to get fastpasses without going to that ride.
