Samuel Lau will step into the role of vice president for transportation at Disney World on June 1. According to the Orlando Sentinel Lau will be responsible for the operation of Disney’s transportation system, overseeing monorail, ferry and bus operations. Lau previously served as the deputy chief operating officer for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency.

Way to go, Disney. Hiring Lau was a master stroke. And when I mean stroke, I mean the sudden death of brain cells because of restriction in blood flow.

Lau was the Zenia Mucha of SF MUNI. Every time some poor pedestrian was run over by a bus or a passenger was dragged under the bus when the doors closed on their coats and the driver foolishly pulled away without first checking his mirrors, this guy came out to the press to apologize for the incident. Problem is, MUNI's safety record still sucks and accidents keep happening and fares keep going up and MUNI management seems as incompetent as ever. Lau and the rest of his management cronies have done very little to improve MUNI's problems, so good riddance to at least one of them.

When I stop and think about it, Lau should feel right at home at WDW. Nothing operationally will be new to him, especially the needless deaths.

Maybe he'll actually make some changes and up the quality of his department instead of settling for the crappy status quo...

Maybe my hopes of a new Monorail fleet can be dug up again...

That'll be the day! They can barely spend money on new attractions and you think they're gonna spend the millions on a new monorail fleet?

Now, skinner, I rode buses five times last week and didn't even have a near miss.

Three monorail rides without a collision ... even got to ride two trains for the price of one (let's see who can figure this one out!)
