Even if it goes up another 40 cents a gallon, that's only about a $36 overall cost increase. If I can't afford $36, I can't afford the trip in the first place. I will say that I am a road trip person. I love to take day trips, and many times I am alone. I have cut back on those because it seems silly to spend $90 to fill my tank just to go for a drive. I'd rather wait until the weekend when hubby can go, too.

But cancelling the trip (other than due to illness or some unforeseen emergency) isn't an option.

There's a family reunion at the end of the month in San Jose that we may or may not be able to go to because it might cost too much for our budget! Major bummer!

Who knew retiring here would be such an advantage?!?!?!

I suppose that wear and tear should be counted as well, so add another $200. Still only $1000. Plus if we fly we have to pay airport parking ($100). When RTs were $200 each it was close to a wash, but now for us at least, driving is cheaper.

That was how much I paid for airfare AND hotel accomodations at Embassy Suites last time. Soooo, I have to get my DL fix on sites like this. We never told the kids that we were trying to plan a trip, so they are not going insane with dissapointment right now. We will be going to "The Great Wolf Lodge" for one night (its a hotel with an indoor water park) and doing local stuff

No big I LOVE the resort and love that I wont have to rent a car...Maybe with the price of gas my DH wont be able to go to work for that week..Heres to wishing! At any rate, we have a great backyard, so looks like Lots of at home stuff for us also!
