They light up, makes several different sounds, and the blade collapses for easy transport. I would recommend going for a red blade, though - only because when it lights up, it is more dramatic-looking than the clear blade which is dependent on colored disks at the base of the blade to provide any kind of hue. Hope he likes it!

You can do a double blade but only one side lights up and I would not recommend a double for a 4 1/2 year old to hard to handle. the double blade price is 22.95. both include the 2 c batteries that they take. A Cm will put the batts in when you pay for your purchase.
