Originally Posted By Jim in Merced CA I love Depp in 'Pirates of the Caribbean' -- he's inspired. He's a good actor -- watch him again in 'Donnie Brasco' - he does an amazing job. I hated him in 'Sweeney Todd' as I did with most of the casting, but whatever. I just question the casting of movie musicals but it's always been thus. Julie Andrews getting passed over for the lead in 'My Fair Lady' - weird. Audrey Hepburn gets cast and Marni Nixon dubs her singing. Natalie Wood plays Maria in 'West Side Story' also dubbed again by Marni Nixon, when Janet Lawrence originated the role on Broadway and could have sung and acted the role beautifully. They even dubbed Rita Moreno's singing voice! And so it goes...
Originally Posted By dagobert I'm also a fan of Johnny Depp. He was great in POTC, but he has starred in many other good movies, like Finding Neverland, Sleepy Hollow, Donnie Brasco, Blow (one of my favourites), From Hell or The 9th Gate. I also liked him in Charlie and the Chcolate Factory, but Sweeney Todd was bad.

She'll help pull in an audience with her name recognition too. Of all of the 'famous' people in the film, I think she's the best fit
