Ouimet's caddy during the Open, steals all of his scenes. Golf fans will probably enjoy it, and it is a nice family movie, but I don't know how much wide appeal it has. Less than the hockey team, football or baseball, I imagine. I think it would be a good rental, but I can't see paying movie prices for it, unless you are a golf fan.

When it was first announced that we were going to see "Greatest Game..." both my mother and I kind of groaned because neither of us is into sports films, nor do we know anything whatsoever about golf. We were pleasantly surprised to see what we thought was a very good film with a lot of heart and both said that it is one we would recommend to others, whether they are into sports or not. I should also add that it also has some very interesting cinematography as well and that added to our enjoyment of the film.

Originally Posted By hopemax Certainly, class issues CAN be compelling, I just didn't find them that way as presented in this movie. I've heard that the book is very good, I just don't think it translated very well on screen. I came away feeling a sense of flatness, that I didn't have after watching Remember the Titans, or Miracle. Certainly, not enough to recommend that people take their families to a theater to see it, when give it a few months and rent it. From a techical standpoint, acting, cinematography, etc, the movie was well done. Except that someone got a little too carried away with the effects at times. That really bugs me, when you can just see the behind the scenes people playing with their new toys (*cough* George Lucas *cough*).

I loved the Rookie but didn't see Titans or Miracle. I enjoyed the glimpse into the mind of the individuals golfer that was orchestrated through special effects. I thought they did a good job expressing the different ways people approached the pressure of that moment during competition when you must focus. I didn't find the film as exhilirating as Rookie as the struggle did not connect with me as directly but I did enjoy the film and recommend it, especially if you are a Shia LeBeouf fan.

I saw it Friday night after I convinced my girlfriend not to watch "In Her Shoes" with everyone else (Sorry I'm not paying 22 dollars to see Cameron Diaz partying in an old folks home with Shirley McClean...) and I liked it a lot as I anticipated and my gf was very pleasantly surprised. It is another feelgood type sports movie about overcoming the odds a la Remember the Titans and Miracle (Although I will say I enjoyed those both more) which is always nice in my opinion. The best part of the movie is probably his caddy, Eddie, who is about 10 and is hilarious. If you like movies like Remember the Titans and Miracle you'll probably like this one a lot. If you DON'T like those kind of movies you'll probably dislike this movie on the whole. It's less thrilling and tense than the other two (even though in the other two you may have lived it and know how it turns out they still gets the heart pumping a bit, this one not so much)
