Really enjoyable ones like The Love Bug and The Horse in the Gray Flannel Suit, to more forgettable ones (a.k.a. "will be on Wonderful World of Disney by this time next year") like Snowball Express and The Ugly Dachshund.

Along with Kurt Russell, he pretty much WAS the face of Disney live-action in those years, so it's definitely a little melancholy to read of his passing. Despite having plenty of other credits, all the obits I've seen were headlined "Disney Star Dean Jones..." so I'm obviously not the only one who remembers him primarily that way.

Through his various characters ... you could see through to the real Dean Jones ... and saw a genuine all-around nice guy. Someone ... all of us would go out for a beer or a meal and have a really good time, getting to know this likable human being.

The other thing, he comes from an era I prefer in entertainment. Light hearted stuff ... that wasn't overburdened with a message. In an era now, where Message This and Message That is so in our face ... I take heart more to the sort of stuff Mr. Jones did for Disney.

I can watch his films, have a simple laugh. Nothing more. Even Lucille Ball once said in an opening monologue for a "Threes Company" Special ... and I'm paraphrasing - It's nice when entertainment can be designed just to give us a laugh, without being preachy/or deliver some serious message.

I'll remember Dean Jones for personifying that in his roles for Disney.

Thank You Mr. Jones ... and I'll always fondly remember you.

    Thanks for the memories.

I will also think of Dean Jones as the original 'Bobby' in Stephen Sondheim's 'Company.'

Yesterday, I did some volunteer work for a big Sonoma County event happening this weekend at Fred MacMurray's former ranch. Another Disney familiar face.
