I thought after it was announced at some comic book convention in San Diego in 2010 that by now ... was wrapping up filming.

But I have feeling .. no filming has been done .. and in fact ... development has stalled.

Can anyone shed some light on the status of it?

    Thanks.

He was trying to collaborate with Jon Favreau because he was doing a film based on WDW or the MK or something like that (Don't quote me on that one, though LOL)

I'm just throwing my arms and hands up, and forget about this for the next 2 years ... Because that's how long it's going to take before it's in the can, and ready for theaters!

I feel the same about Star Trek. I was expecting the second film (with the new crew) out this year. Now it's going to be 2013, or '14.

I wish Sony would do that with the awful Bewitched movie they put out several years ago with Nicole Kidman. The famous, classic tv series deserves a good film, worthy of the show that ran 8 years. That film was universally panned, and hated ... and Sony's misfire should be fixed .. by creating another film - This time, done right!

I'm sure a better movie will happen one day, but I don't think it'll be soon!!!

It is still in development. A new writer was just hired.

Whether Guillermo del Toro directs the final script is another matter. The guy seems to have a lot of movies on his plate at the moment including Pinocchio and Crimson Peak (he has just cast Emma Stone and Charlie Hunnam in the latter).

I think a lot will ride on the success of Pacific Rim as to whether del Toro gets to play with the big toys again. It has a tough release schedule in mid-July and I'm not sure it is unique enough to be a big success.

Perhaps it's safer to say that the idea isn't dead, but the previous incarnation is?!!!

Beyond Frankenweenie and the 4th Pirates film I can't think of any other announced project that was carried over from Dick Cook's regime to his two successors.

del Toro must have been embarrassed with the whole Disney Double Dare You project that was announced by Dick with great fanfare at the first D23 Expo. They spent a truckload of money on reviewing scripts and then Ross and Iger decided to shut the whole thing down. A real shame as Paramount have made an absolute killing out of exactly that genre of flick - cheap horror.

del Toro was meant to be given carte blanche to work with every business unit including Imagineering but that hasn't happened. He is such an incredible visionary and driving him away to another studio is a poor creative choice for a studio that is now focused only on tentpoles IMHO. Disney's loss is WB/Legendary's gain I suspect - until Pacific Rim tanks!
