It made sence since I was driving back and forth between Atlanta and home several times saturday. Well we all ended up sleeping in till 11:44 am. I ended up leaving the hotel and I could see that groups were setting up for the Pride Parade. Since I was there... I decided to walk down to see if any of my friends in the motorcycle group were there, to say hello. So I go walking down to the parade. As I am walking down, I bump into a group of employees who are marching for my employeer ( who was one of the major sponcers of the event ). Anyway I get recruited to march along side everyone. Except, I'm still wearing the same gear that I was wearing clubbing the night before at the Eagle. I had gone out as a Coast Guard helicopter pilot, wearing black combat boots, blue flight suit, orange jockstrap, black leather guantlets and arm bands with avaition sunglasses. So now I'm marching in the parade... and half way down the parade route. I have what Miss Janet Jackson called a "wardrobe malfuntion". The zipper broke. On a flight suit thats a very important zipper. Oh my, oh my! I managed to make it through the parade route and I don't think anyone noticed.... but it was funny. I had a great time. I ended up hanging out at my employeer's pavallion in Piedmont Park. The things I do for my employeer!

I know I am so grateful that I feel a part of the LP community. Ya'll just a great group of people! Just don't ask me to march in any parades, LOL!

Everyone says that when I am wearing my Coast Guard helicopter pilots helmet I look like Luke Skywalker getting ready to fly and X-wing fighter. So now everyone calls me Luke, LOL. And apparently everyone likes it too. So thats always a good thing.

They basically had a DJ and he was playing RAP music <yuck>. First lesson in playing music....KNOW YOUR CROWD!.. So this guy is playing loud music... no one is singing along, dancing or anthing. He was taking requests.... so I requested, Spin Spin Sugar by the Sneaker Pimp... nope, he never heard of it, Sugar Daddy by Yerba Buena, Jerk it Out by The Caesars, Emotional Roller Coaster by Vivian Green, Fly by Hilary Duff, Crying at the Discotech by Alcazar. Nope he never heard of anyone them, well he had heard of Viven Green but didn't have it. OH BOY!! And he's looking at me like I'm some kind of crazy person because I listen to obscure music. And I tell him this is the music they play at my Gold's Gym. Get a clue buddy! So I basically stayed till 5 pm... walked back to my car and put in some Moby to recover from the BAD music afternoon.

Boy, Atlanta love a parade and a party and Boy do we know how to throw one! The group I was with were passing out beads. I"m not sure if we truely still have hundreds of people from New Orleans still living in Atlanta or not... but boy did those people LOVE getting beads. I was just handing them out. A few quick observences. I have marched in numerous Pride parades in Boston and Providence ( well Providence's Pride parade was always more like a protest rally actually ). Everyone in those communities really got into it. In Boston you would be waving at anyone and they would wave back. You could be waving at the people on the trains, buses and everyone is waving back. NOT IN ATLANTA. The most noticable thing was that the police and firemen along the route looked so angry. They looked like they did NOT want to be there.. they looked so up pleasant. Of course it was in the mid 90s so I'm sure heat played a factor in all this. In Providence and Boston we actually have gay police officers that have their own group and march in those Pride parades. Oh and then there were protesters.... LOL.... the "God hates Gay's crowd". I honestly have to say I have NEVER encoutered this during a Pride parade... it was so refreshing... I felt like a rebel!!!! I also noticed that the group I was with pretty much stayed near the center of the road, almost as if they were embarresed to be seen or at least uncomfortable. Meanwhile, I'm walking along near the side walks waving at EVERYONE... and getting everyone to cheer!!!!! I don't know how many times I heard people say they were going to switch phone services after they saw me motivating the crowd. I'm a real rebel rouser!!! Finally, I had to walk from Pedimont Park all the way back to my car ( left at the begining of the Parade route ). And what amazed me was the trash. I was picking up trash during the parade as my group was at the begining of the parade, there were lots of people following behind. It occured to me that Atlanta was very, very kind and supportive to had the expense of doing all this and yet where was the Pride for keeping the city clean from our trash? I just thought we left a mess behind for everyone else to clean up. Why not show some pride in "our" city, community and state by putting trash in its proper place. There were plenty of trash cans around. Anyway just an observence.
