Given that all of the functionality is in the RFID cards, I would never consider it, but it might be a good option for families with older kids who want to venture off alone, but aren't used to carrying a wallet

I get why they are starting the program with special hardware, but I have to think that down the road the Magic Bands will disappear and the tech will run on everyone's mobile device.

They're having enough issues providing a consistent experience with the new program that I doubt they're interested in using a non-standard-issue device And as mentioned in one of the threads talking about the potential of MM+ in Tokyo, where they have similar cards that work on the trains and in convenience stores, it was mentioned that Disney liked having their own devices, since it made it feel more special. When you use the same device to enter a park and use a FP+ as you do at your local Starbucks, you're less likely to make an impulse buy because it doesn't feel like real money. Most people now treat debit and credit cards like cash, so this is Disney's move to try and keep ahead of the game, so it feels like you're playing with fake money. It helps their bottom line, but it also helps that feeling that you're in a very different place than the everyday world

Originally Posted By hopemax > So how do you use your FP reservations then if you opt to not buy one? < With your RFID enabled ticket media. You just tap it on the touch points. I actually prefer the ticket. I used the CM guest passes in January, and it took a second. Everyone with MBs were fiddling with it trying to line up the Mickey heads. It seemed to take 5 seconds or longer, and people were twisting their wrists in awkward positions. CM guest passes are still not part of the system. FAQ says hopefully fall. So I'm still not part of the system. FAQ says, since multiple people can use them, the programming is very complicated.

That's a problem, sure, but not an impossible obstacle to overcome. The whole world is going mobile, so I wouldn't be surprised if the system became integrated with standard mobile operating systems at some point in the future.

It seemed like the FP+ return lines had noteworthy backups at the 2 places where people have to scan, since it's really awkward to line up your wrist some times. Each spot has 2 scanners (one on each side of the path) to help speed things along, but I think it would really help if they bumped it up to 4 (2 rows of 2), since one side of the path is often hidden and it's awkward to walk up next to somebody you don't know to scan your wristband (like using a soda fountain next to somebody you don't know). With 2 rows, you could get started while another group is still scanning, and most parties could scan their entire group at the same time, since few people are at WDW with a group of 2
