Thousand Oaks, CA (AHN) - Joseph Stefano, the co-creator of television's "The Outer Limits" and screenwriter for the horror film "Psycho" has died. He was 84.
Funeral director Elaine Munoz says Stefano died Aug. 25 at Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center in California. The cause of death was not revealed.

Stefano moved to New York after graduating from high school in 1940. The aspiring entertainer played piano, danced, wrote music and lyrics.

His break came when he was hired to write for the "Ted Mack Family Hour" in the 1950s.

Stefano eventually became a scriptwriter for 20th Century Fox in 1960, and moved to Hollywood.

Legendary director Alfred Hitchcock hired him to adapt a Robert Bloch pulp novel for film. The movie was "Psycho."
