I would assume it's because it's an off-the-shelf ride that was designed to be dismantled for rehabs.

I hope they don't get the pieces of the two rides mixed up .....

Still, it does seem a little odd that they take everything out. Even with the Tea Cups, the majority of the ride's inner workings are still there below the surface; with the swings, there's very little that remains.

And I think that refurb of the carousel (circa 2002 or 2003?) was the exception rather than the rule. There were substantial issues with the structure, as a result of poor maintenance, which nessecitated it essentially be rebuilt. For the most part, the horses are cycled out (with 4 spares) for painting, and most of the maintenance can be done overnight. I'm actually not sure if the ride has closed for a scheduled refurbishment since the rebuild about a decade ago, which is a pretty impressive record.

Hmmm... maybe it's routine for wave swinger rides to be completely disassembled for maintenance.

In my mind, that would be like naming an attraction after the Princess franchise, but theming it to the POTC movies. Just one of the many questionable-but-well-executed theme choices in that corner of the park, I guess.

I'm very much in favor of them dismantling Silly Symphony Swings. Every few months, if that's what it takes.

It would be weird naming a ride "Mickey Mouse's Swinging Shorts."
