Still, it does seem a little odd that they take everything out. Even with the Tea Cups, the majority of the ride's inner workings are still there below the surface; with the swings, there's very little that remains. And I think that refurb of the carousel (circa 2002 or 2003?) was the exception rather than the rule. There were substantial issues with the structure, as a result of poor maintenance, which nessecitated it essentially be rebuilt. For the most part, the horses are cycled out (with 4 spares) for painting, and most of the maintenance can be done overnight. I'm actually not sure if the ride has closed for a scheduled refurbishment since the rebuild about a decade ago, which is a pretty impressive record.
