Good morning everyone – I’m writing this from 35,000 feet (ain’t technology grand)!

First things first, as I was typing this to email – a Tornado Watch was just issued for the area in and around Walt Disney World until 1pm!

One thing is for sure, I sure picked a good day to start the WDW_Weather partnership with @Laughing_Place, because what a wild ride we had yesterday wouldn’t you say? Now had you been a follower of us @WDW_Weather you wouldn’t have been surprised at all so let me let you in on a little secret for today (Thursday) … you can expet more (and maybe MORE) of the same!

Showers lingered into the overnight hours and as I look at the radar this second at 6am, there’s plenty of rain to our north (in fact, I’m flying through it right now and I can barely type this sentence … always pleasant). In fact by the time you read this it wouldn’t surprise me if it were raining and making Extra Magic hours at Magic Kingdom rather wet.

The other parks open to the public at 9am this morning and you better have your rain gear handy. There’s plenty of moisture to work with and many areas could see more rain than they saw yesterday as the cold front pushes through the area early this afternoon.

As of now I’m not too concerned with a widespread tornado outbreak, but as many of you may have seen that didn’t stop some trees from coming down in the Orlando area on Wednesday. So the primary concern (especially for park goers) will be heavy rain with cloud to ground lightning strikes. Damaging straight line winds are also a concern – but more for the tree population versus the human one.

In response to the forecast last I checked Disney had decided to already close Blizzard Beach for the day on March 31st. Check with your concierge if you are staying at a resort to see if this is still true, but with lightning forecasted in the area there’s really no reason to be frolicking around in a water park anyway (though it appears as of now Typhoon plans on being open).

Now how would you like to hear some good news? When I started looking at models earlier this week, it looked like the entire week was going to be a mess and now it looks like once the front passes through, high pressure will build in behind it and keep things dry through most of the weekend. Each day will get progressively warmer as well with temperatures by Sunday back into the mid 80s.

Today, like I said, expect showers and thunderstorms with temperatures struggling to get too far into the 80s. Between you and I, we would rather it stay cloudy today because any daytime heating will further destabilize the atmosphere and we just don’t need that today because it will make any thunderstorm development even more furious.

When I started in radio my boss always told me I needed to learn brevity and apparently that holds true today as this thing is way too long, but I hope it’s beneficial for some of you planning to hit the parks. If you’ve got the time, today may be a good day to lay low at one of the resorts – perhaps you can hit the culinary tour over at Animal Kingdom lodge … I believe it still starts at 4pm or maybe even trade pins with King Pin before at 3pm – he’s always a good time. Or just grab yourself a tasty adult beverage, because it’s always Happy Hour somewhere. Until tomorrow – have a great day everyone! (I’ll keep this shorter when there’s less going on … promise.)
