In fact, the plot is only 'loosely' based on the old L. Frank Baum stories, and bears very little resemblance to the 1939 musical classic.

Imagine Mad Max, Blade Runner, and Ripley from the Alien movies meet the Wizard of Oz, and you get an idea of how this story skews. It's not the best show I've seen, but, frankly, it does seem to keep me interested even if some of the plot is confusing. Richard Dreyfus plays "Mystic", the Wizard and Zooey Daschnal (sp?) is the lead, "D.G." (Get it? D.G.=Dorothy Gale). It does, however, seems to make Disney's very dark "Return to Oz" film from the 1980s seem downright cheery and whimsical! I'm curious as to how they resolve this interpretation!

The pace is extremely slow -- long drawn out CGI establishing shots. Long drawn out conversations between D.G. and the others. Frankly, rather tedious.

Maybe with 6 hours over three nights, they realized they didn't have enough material.

I read in Time Magazine, the entertainment reporter gave it a D+.

    Ouch.

In other words, I am liking the mini series much more since I decided to completely separate it from what I know to be The Wizard of Oz.

Regarding Tin Man SeanYoda DVR'd it but like a few other things I have to wait for him to want to watch it before we can settle into it and 'clear' all 3 episodes off the DVR. (dangit)

It's a great concept. Maybe it shoulda been a regular weekly series.

The biggest problem with it was that it really was a cyber/steam punk world and not OZ. In the real OZ the whole world is magical. In Tin Man the whole thing was technology with just a dash of magic.
