Here is another confirmation of what a few of us folks have been chirping about for the last couple years.

Good thing I prefer visiting Disneyland. They truly do not understand why people come and spend thousands to visit the parks. Think of all the new attractions and refurbishments they could have had in lieu of this gimmick. The Florida parks are falling apart, the monorails and resorts are falling apart, Downtown Disney falling apart, and they want guests to play Where's Waldo in Adventureland.

No thanks, I'm out, I'll stick to Disneyland.

Actually, the article doesn't say this technology is restricted to WDW. In the first sentence:

"There's a new technology about to make its debut at Disney Parks and Resorts."

WDW may be the testing ground, but there's nothing to say it won't constricted to Orlando....

Actually it has been stated elsewhere that Orlando will be the only participant in this initiative in the first years.

I can see it branching out to overseas, but do not see it coming to Disneyland - why I feel at ease in planning future trips to Anaheim. Disneyland's current guest population and severe lack of onsite accommodations will prohibit the implementation until the costs can be justified with more onsite rooms. Even early entry is offered to offsite guests at Disneyland because of how bad the onsite ratios are in contrast to the overhead that comes with operating perks.

This thought occurred to me too. It's no different than Key to the World cards. As soon as you know it's missing, you report it and are issued a new one. The old one is deactivated. I bet you'd know a wrist band was missing before a card, too.

I would put it in my bag and get it out when I need it - much easier to do with a card than with a wrist band!

One thing I thought was interesting in the article was the concept art - some was a bit confusing, why would an imagineer visit your hotel room because of this? - but other were kind of showing the interactive games they seem to plan. I remember that Spirit mentioned some time back that they are planning something to show more of the history of the parks and the concept art of the "in park experience" at Epcot may very well be something in that direction.

I wonder whether the new Art of Animation resort will already have RFID locks instead of the magnetic cards? Would make sense to install already the new locks there. It will be quite a project anyway to exchange the locks on all rooms at all of the resorts...

I totally agree with you on that. I hated those wristbands in "all-inclusive" hotels and I really don't want to wear them all the time.

Also, I loathe the idea of upcharging further. Sure, offer one or two perks to on site guests. even better tier it to one perk for an economy resort, 3 for a moderate and 6 for a deluxe or something. But the upcharge stuff, blechhhh.

What I loved this year is we have been to Europa Park, Phantasialand and Efteling. All were very busy parks as it was Easter or Summer vacation time. None of the parks offer Fast Pass. As a result, the longest wait we had was an hour (most were far less) and the lines continually moved. We could also pretty much make reservations for dining the same day and in most places, could walk up anyway. And there was live music everywhere we went. All the things I really miss about the Disney park experience (Ok, DL still has the live performances, but WDW and DLP not so much).

I would rather Disney spent this money on really enhancing the experience, rather than trying to create a greater divide between the on site vs off site demos, and developing USPs to keep people on property. But moves like these make me want to go to other properties more.

And that random picture you took of little Billy and his wristband in front of his favorite ride? Well everybody in the background has one too. Looks like an army of drones has taken over the World.

In addition to the other issues already mentioned, I think that people won't want to wear them, simply because they'll look silly. Yes, they may (or may not) be uncomfortable, create identity fraud possibilities, and create hassle if lost (just like any other form of payment I might add), but I think a lot of people will just be more concerned about how they look. Welcome to America.
