But "Zip A Dee Doo Dah" did place in the top 50 on their song list a few years back.

I wouldn't be surprised if Little Mermaid made the list, it reinvigorated the animated musical, and those Ashman and Menkin songs were great.

    Gigi
    Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
    The Sound of Music
    An American in Paris

Personal pick-Jesus Christ Superstar. I have the soundtrack and listen to it at least once a year. It's awesome.

And I agree, "Dick Tracy" was a bit of a surprise, as was the exclusion of really recent musicals "Phantom of the Opera", "The Producers" and "Rent" from the nomination list.

    Except they were terrible films.

Phantom was great and Rent was passable.
I agree on The Producers though. It was reasonably entertaining but by all technical means it was a terrible film.

No offense, but I think you spelled "laughable" wrong. And Phantom and the Producers were both dreadful.

I can deal with Dick Tracy being there. There are bound to be Sondheim fanatics making up a list like this, so I can see this one getting snuck in. But my question mark goes to...Evita? Ugh.

I agree with TK. The logical choices for top 3 are Singin in the Rain, then Oz, then West Side Story.

We'd get along fine on that one. I've always loved that music, although the film doesn't hold up well.

I'll add "Hair". Gotta love the huge production numbers. Wasn't that Twyla Tharp choreography? I laughed so hard when they lampooned it in the 40-year old virgin.

Singing in the Rain definately deserves the top spot. I'm not too crazy about the "Gotta Dance" number but everything else is pure Hollywood gold!

    Meet Me in St. Louis
    Little Mermaid

I could go with Evita somewhere down the list. I really didn't care for Phantom at all.

I loved Phantom. Stuck well to the stage show and gave the Phantom something better to do than to sit and whine like he does in the stage show. He was actually a creature of menace in the film.
