When we flew into Oakland, we made a free phone call, a shuttle came to pick us up and we went to a hotel (hilton or something?) There in a little lobby booth we rented our car with no problems. We had a very early flight; we droped the car off at like 5am and took the hotel shuttle back to the airport. It was a hotel that catered to Airline personal because there were lots of flight personal and even a few pilots on our shuttle. And the shuttle schedual was posted in the lobby when we picked up the car. Anyway, that was our experience. No problems, but just realize you'll be going off airport to pick up the car.
