I'm 27 and thought you were supposed to get these in your teens if you were going to get them. My brother had his out when he was about 20. When (if you have them) did you all get yours? Has anyone kept their's in even though you were told to have them out?

NEVER do this. By the time they got to the last one, I felt it.

Ask them to put you out. If the dentist says they have to go, they have to go.

That's the weird part. It's not hurting me at all and all my upper teeth are still straight. I can't even feel it against my cheek, really. I happened to stick a finger up there over the weekend to dislodge a popcorn kernel from my tooth (classy, ey?) and that's when I felt it. So I don't even know how long it's been poking there.

No way! Local anaesthetic is the best here. I really enjoyed watching the dentist tug and pull and twist to get these things out. At one point, he had his foot up on the chair and was leaning back with the full weight of his body trying to get the thing out! I found it simply wonderful that in our modern age, wisdom teeth are still pulled with a pair of pliers and a lot of elbow grease! I'm so glad I wasn't asleep to watch the show!

I had them out in the dentist office with a local - no problem except I didn't like the noise it made - iiky. My dentist had wanted to take them out for years - no real reason other than being hard to clean them.

My oldest teenage daughter recently had all 4 of hers out at once and they put her completely out. No issues.

I think using a local or not depends if the wisdom teeth are exposed or still under the gums.

    What does your dentist recommend?

I remember when my brother and I were teenagers and he got his out right before we got braces. They didn't think mine would be a problem and so far they haven't been.

I've had teeth pulled before. I wore my headphones so I didn't hear the noises and I was all good. I'm a little nervous that this won't break all the way through and they'll have to dig for it. But I'll cross all these bridges in Sept when I go.

I've ignored the advice all these years and have had no problem with them.

If you have one out definitely choose to be put out. Afterwards ask for the best meds you can get. Even if you don't really need them the recreational possibilities are endless.

I didn't say anyting and ended up with Tylenol 3. My wife expressed concern about pain when she had hers out and got PERCODAN!! Percodan is a helluva lot more fun that Tylenol 3.

The first two days after removal are the worst regarding pain, even with narcotics. Once you get home from surgery, you sit propped up in bed and place two ice packs on your cheeks (15 min on and 15 min off) throughout the night, to reduce swelling in the face. I swear, the ice was worse than the pain from the procedure. Even with the ice packs, I still managed to look like a chipmunk the rest of the week.

I've had standard tooth extractions of permanent teeth via novocaine. Not exactly fun, but much easier and far less painful than surgical removal. You should do fine. Be grateful the wisdom teeth aren't impacted like mine were.

No problems at all with recovery.

Just get the right kind of pain killer, lol!

The worst part was that I got really swollen and had huge bruises on my face. It seriously looked like someone punched me on both sides of my face. Very attractive.
