Due to environmental regulations, paint these days just doesn't keep it's color as long. I wonder if the tower's damage area was purposely painted too bring in order to fade to a correct level and last longer before repainting is needed.

(I'm not downing the choice, I'm just curious because I really don't know)<<< I was thinking about that. I have seen purple "welding scars" left along various surfaces, concrete and metal. I think it's plausible. In this case, it is SO purple... it is probably one of those things that looked better on the model or the paint swatch. I don't have an explanation for DCA's TOWER, but I have mentioned before, when they started painting the EPCOT Center pavillions before it opened, the colors were WAY too garish. Seems they'd been chosen under the California sun, the BURBANK, smog-ridden sun. Under the pollution-free Florida sky, the colors came off too bold, too intense. So virtually every exterior color was adjusted, toned down. Things change. And I do know that purple as a pigment in many paints has a bleed through quality. In latex, it also DULLS pretty quickly, so they might have allowed for that.

Now, my guess as to why they changed was that white doesn't contrast as well against golden beige stucco as it does against reddish orange stucco like in WDW. Plus, this way they seem to have more detailing of the "interior hallways" of the hotel, which you might not "get" if it were whitish gray.
