I find SoCal weather to be too boring, with few variations in seasons. We deal with the occasional nor'easter or hurricane, but we don't have to deal with cataclysmic earthquakes, wildfires, mudslides, and the like. Don't get me wrong, I find California and its weather to be useful, but like Hawaii, I believe if I lived there I'd get too satiated. We get snow, rain, beautiful spring, and the bite of autumn. To each his own, I guess.

And it's been a while since I've lived in hurricane country, but it seems to me like they're really blowing Irene out of proportion. I'm sure it will be bad (it is a hurricane, after all), but it seems like they're thinking it will be the next Katrina if it hits NYC. I lived a couple hours inland in NC, and got plenty of 'hurricanes', but they really weren't too bad, as they had lost all of their power by the time they made it that far. I suspect that by the time it gets up there, it will basically just dump a whole bunch of rain, and be like any other storm. I know that they rarely get hurricanes up there, so they might be justly scared, but the reaction just seems so weird to me. But if I had to be stranded somewhere as a result of a hurricane, WDW seems like a pretty good place. That is, assuming it's not directly in the storm's path, because that would be significantly less fun!

I am hoping my house (and my son's in the mandatory evacuation area) are safe when we are able to return. Meanwhile I am CM-less (no silver pass to the parks - she is on her honeymoon) but do have a new AP (was part of wedding package that my daughter obviously didn't need) so that is taken care of.
