It would be great to see a touching nighttime event for DAK.

A real shame. When I was there, a CM told me the park is absolutely beautiful at nighttime. A sad fact that many people will never experience.

To be honest I don't think this one will come back - there are massive infrastructure and safety issues with running a nighttime parade in the park - especially in no light conditions.

It was a pretty concept from Steven Davison - based on the Japanese lantern parades. It did feel very DAK-like.

Agreed. And see the You Tube clip of a Japanese Lantern Parade, I can visualize it and see how this would be so gorgeous in an Animal Kingdom way.

    I understand safety come first.

I thought millions had been invested already in some infrastructure in preparation for the parade. Did that happen?

There is parade infrastructure which was installed pre-Day One but it wasn't designed for a nighttime experience - there just isn't sufficient lighting alongside (as opposed to along) the performance corridor to make it safe for guests who do not want to see the parade. There is reluctance to go back in and make the changes necessary to make the park safe for Rivers of Light - it would involve a lot of damage to the island and its horticulture.

I'm sad that we won't ever get to actually see it.

This is suppose to be rethemed around Disney characters. This may explain some of the rumors that I've read for future DAK attractions. These include an E-ticket Lion King flume ride, a high capacity Bambi dark ride, and an attraction themed around Pegasus from Hercules. If this is all true, I think that it sounds much more exciting than the Rivers of Light parade (or whatever it's called).

As to a Beastly Kingdomme with Disney characters... meh. I'm sure they'll do a good job with it, but it's nowhere near as interesting as what had been proposed originally. A creative copout.
