I love the Sun Wheel though - I get off feeling ever-so-slightly queasy which I don't usually get on rides, but it's worth it for the fun of it.

Hope you enjoyed yourself alexbook. It is a nice view from up there....if you can bring yourself to actually look out the cage. LOL.

My oldest son (18) with a very bellowing voice was roaring in terror (only partly in fun) but the CM just told him, "only one more time," when we came around. Maybe the CM was fooled by the way the rest of us were laughing at my son/their brother.

I don't think it's just a height thing because we went on a stationary car yesterday and it didn't bother my son at all.

What I don't understand is why there is always such a long line for the Sun Wheel and not for Maliboomer. I love them both but I do think the Sun Wheel is the scarier of the two.

Mainly because it is soooo slow to load and unload the people on the ride.

When the cage starts moving like that it feels like you are just going to fly off. If I saw that kind of ferris wheel at a carnival I wouldnt touch it with a ten foot pole but I am confident with Disneyland's maintenance so even though I know its safe, the feeling of unsafe is scary.

To be completely fair, we were all also sitting very still and trying not to rock the cage any more than necessary!

Overall lots of fun. Thanks Alex and PoohBear for humoring me and going along with my crazy ideas

The first time we rode it, we only went around one time, and it was all loading and unloading. It was really underwhelming.

I still do not like it but the first time I ever rode a ferris wheel was at the Seattle zoo and I was sitting in an open seat with an older girl I didn't know. She kept making it swing as much as she could and told me that the seats could flip over. I was really little and pretty terrified. Ferris Wheels will always scare me just a little.

Gary Sinise should do the recorded spiel and they could call it the M:S of the west coast.

    >> suffer from motion sickness so tend to avoid simulator rides but love any coaster rides, on a recent visit to California Adventure we went on the sunwheel, there are two choices for riders, static or swinging, we went on the swinging side and when we were sealed in I noticed they provided sick bags - too late, when the ride is really in motion I was sick and had to sit down for about 2 hours afterwards!! Has anyone else had this unfortunate experience?<<

Heck, the Sun Wheel is one of just two Disney attractions that come with Air Sickness Bags (Mission: Space being the other)......

We were sitting opposite of each other and our feet FLEW to the opposite seats to anchor us and my hands splayed themselves against the wire grating like magnets! Little squeaks of fear emitting from our "cage" the whole ride! We're not normally sissies but this ride definately changed that! However, I would like to try it once during the day to see the views...If my legs'll carry me down that line..°o°

I have to say that I was completely surprised by this topic. This is the SINGLE most terrifying ride I have ever been on in my life. I have been on many a loopy coaster, and many an upside-down contraption, and many a rickety ride that I thought would break down and spell my doom, but this one takes the cake. By far.

I have actually been on the ride twice. The first time was pretty odd - the park was closing, so my boyfriend and I got the ride to ourselves. I've never been much of a fan of ferris wheels, so we took the stationary one and got to go around a few more times than we were supposed to (aka more than once). It WAS a bit scary (it looked like the empty moving bucket was going to hit us) but the view was nice.

The second time, however...was a bit different. This time we waited in a half-hour or longer line, and were with two of our good friends. They wanted to go on the moving buckets, which I was worried about at first, but toward the end of our wait I actually got excited about (I actually convinced them to not leave the line). We got on, and it was okay for a bit. Then the terror started. There was a huge push of momentum, and we went skyrocketing into what appeared to be midair, and rocked crazily back and forth for about 30 seconds. At this point we were all clinging to each other and I was saying "I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry!" for getting us into this mess. And, by the way, none of the four of us are lightweights when it comes to rides.

Then it got worse. We were stopped at the top while they unloaded other cars, but it seemed to be an unusually long unloading period. We were all a bit nervous, and then we heard from the speaker "we are experiencing..." and you know the rest. So then we tried to figure out how we could possibly be rescued from the buckets at the top of the ride when there were huge metal bars blocking our doors. And we tried not to move, lest we rock the bucket. We were in the air probably about 15 minutes, maybe longer, so these concerns definitely came up. And when we finally were sent back down (we didn't have to get rescued), we had to deal with the swinging again, which I have to say did not seem pleasant in the slightest. No "gentle rocking." The only pleasure I got out of the ride was facing my fear, and doing something that was truly terrifying.

So of course my experience was slightly different than average, but it would have still been terrifying if we hadn't been stuck. So basically what I'm saying is, we are all fine with heights, we are all fine with motion, but none of us will ever go on that again (at least the swinging buckets). You amazing people who did not find this ride terrifying should pat yourselves on the backs for being truly brave.

To me, I think the difference is that your legs and arms are just "out there." Makes me feel insecure.
