It's a very fun place to eat, and every (1/2?) hour there is a "show" where there's rain noises and the plastic animals move their arms. The 14-year-old might like ESPN Zone too. Actually, all your kids might. The food is good (probably better than Rainforest actually) and they can play arcade games while you wait for a table. I don't know any exact details on reservations for those places. In my experience we just went right in to Rainforest and ESPN there is always a pretty long wait. Maybe someone else can give you tips on when/how to make reservations.

The food is pretty good (and has lots of options for kids, simple American dishes), but the environment is what makes it so fun. It feels like you're sitting in a Rainforest, "animals" are everywhere, etc. If I remember correctly, they do get pretty busy, but I doubt you need to make reservations way ahead of time... if you plan on having dinner there, just go their early morning and ask to fit you in, that should be just fine. La Brea Bakery is nice for a lunch spot. Food is good.
