I feel OK about it though because we replaced our windows last spring with some highly insulated windows (triple pane with Krypton gas).

This summer is considerably hotter than last... we've had more 90+ highs to date than we usually have in an entire year. As I've mentioned, I'm also keeping the thermostat set lower than before. But with all that we are still using less electricity than we did last year.

So that is good. But I still think we could do better. Where do you guys keep your thermostat set?

My neighbors monthly eletric bills are in the neighborhood of $350-400 a month.

If my hot flashes return - all bets are off. It'll be set where I want, when I want - or else.

    Heh heh heh heh... ;-)

We are also replacing our furnace and air conditioner in a couple of weeks. Our air conditioner is 20 years old and I'm looking forward to the new one for efficiency and savings :) They are also going to redirect the airflow by adding valves or something to the rooms we don't use as much.

We are lucky enough to live where most evenings and mornings we have "natural air conditioning" (read fog) but I either forget from year to year or this year has been remarkably HOT here.

We keep the thermostat at 76 on those super hot days, 78 when we are on vacation for the pets (neighbors monitor the heat) and off most of the time due to where we live. When we moved into our neighborhood most of the neighbors were putting in pools. Since my parents live across town and have a pool, DH had airconditioning installed. The neighbors laughed until the first HOT night. No one was sleeping in their pool :)

Jim, our DD lives in Elk Grove, near Sacramento and they keep their thermostat at 78 and use ceiling fans during the day for their upstairs rooms. DH and I swealter when we are there. UGH!

Ugh is right! My feeling is if you're not going to use your A/C when it's the heat of summer -- when do you use it?

When the temps goes over 100 then we kick on the air from around 3pm to 7pm -during the hottest part of the day, shut it off during the night.

    You girls!!

    (love ya though)

My wife has moved her 'face kit' (makeup) and stuff down to the bathroom in our entry level (2nd from the bottom in a four level house). Since that bathroom is usually at least five degrees cooler than the bathroom by our bedroom (top level), she is a very happy camper.

Me too! Do you have any idea how long it can take women to put on their face??

    LOL
