They don't get to see what their ears are doing since they can't see the top of their own heads. And I never really watched their ears since I was watching the show. Not sure I find the need for them or to part with 25 bucks to have them.

After watching WOC and F!, I thought they did a much better job with the programming for F!, and it was used more cleverly throughout. There are a couple parts of the show that aren't as neat with the ears (the random white flashes during the pre-finale strobes on the island detract from how well done that segment is), but overall it was a neat little bonus. I certainly wouldn't pay for it myself, but it didn't bother me to see other people wearing the ears.
