I just came across those photos at Miceage.com too and all I can say is, the long nightmare of a tacky Disney park finally is coming a bit closer to an end:

Seeing construction walls (or barricades) installed at the entrance to DCA -- to any Disney park, for that matter -- speaks volumes.

And it will be time to celebrate and sigh with relief when that dumb-looking re-creation of the Golden Gate Bridge is ripped down, along with the chintzy titanium hubcap and the rest of the junk in and around the Sunshine Plaza.

I also noticed just how homely the "California" letters look from their southern (or back) side:

    <a href="http://darkbeer.smugmug.com/photos/645995077_C6fgc-M.jpg" target="_blank">http://darkbeer.smugmug.com/ph...gc-M.jpg</a>

Truly a multi-layer comedy of errors, which hopefully will be a life-long learning experience -- and lesson in both embarrassment and humility -- for the DisCo.

But yes, cant wait for the hubcap to come down lol. I would PAY someone real money if they can take pictures of the day thats being dismantled. I will pay more for that than naked pics of Halle Berry...okay I'm lying.

But wow, I dont really keep track of when this stuff is being worked on, just around the time its suppose to be finished ;). But for it to be starting in just a few months time is really cool.

That picture is, as they say in the printing business 'flopped' -- notice that all the letters are backward.

I think they're an important piece of DLR history, and really BIG pieces too. I'd like to see them find a new home within DLR.

Which most people (I.E. Tourists and people in a hurry) don't stop to do. Which I think is the main reason that DCA was not well responded to, because most people don't stop to look at the beauty of it. I think this is lees the fault of the people and more the fault of WDI for not getting that most wan't the entertainment to be obviously clear and right infront of their face.

    Sincerely,
    The Kid of Diz

I agree. Also much of the scale is off. The bridge's towers are too tall and too close together and the sun icon is too small and too low. The murals are nice though, and overall the entrance isn't as bad as the Sunshine Plaza area just behind it.

I wonder how much % of the cost of the DCA overhaul is due to the fact that they have to do construction around an operating theme park. If the park were closed down and they could have crews working everywhere at once, how much less do you think it would cost? How much less time would it take?
