We arrived at Disneyland at 7pm last night planning on staying until Friday. The only night we had to see the fireworks was last night. We arrived early find a good spot to see them and when the announcement was made they were cancelled due to high winds, I was very upset. I guess I will never get to see fireworks at Disneyland. I bought an extra day park hopper ticket too just to go see them. Does this happen often? The winds didn't actually seem that high but they were being monitored the whole time.

At least now you know the importance of doing your homework before you take a trip so you know what to expect and what not to expect.

Hopefully this will help ease the disappointment of missing the fireworks. Its hard to be sad when you are inside DL! We also missed them because of wind and were very disappointed. But we still loved our trip. I hope the rest of your vacation goes well!

The "high winds" isn't that they are fast, but that they are higher up in the atmosphere. It wasn't that windy in the park because we're pretty much sheltered. But the winds higher up (say, 500 feet) are what affect the fireworks.

Sorry you missed them. We listened to the audio on our way home today, because I was having a minor bad day. :)

I know it would be fairly difficult and expensive to set up, but would there be a way to do the show without all of the in park stuff, and make a windy show, where there isn't everything (maybe some special things to fill in the gaps, but not too much extra), but it's still a whole lot better than nothing. It seems like a nice alternative to completely canceling the show. Or even offering a generic TDL style show that's pretty quick and bland with music from the movies, but it's better than nothing.

It happens fairly regularly in Spring when the weather is active. You may have been upset at the cancellation, but you probably would have been more upset had they done the show and you and your family were showered with sparks and ash causing physical discomfort, or in a worse case scenario even injury.

This show is too wind sensitive. I remeber seeing Fantasy in the Sky in the wind. Why not just remove show elements that could be dangerous in the wind for the performance? Oh well...I'm just bitter.

Though my husband and I have seen this particular show many, many times I made a point of getting my whole (our five adult children, their children and significant others) family there in July of 2005. I was so excited for us to all see the show together. We camped out in front of the castle for hours. There were four announcements made before they made to call to cancel. I just sat and cried. We got to see them the next night; all except my middle son who had to leave and still has not had the chance to get back.
Sidenote: We were told by the CM when we were given priority seating in February that this is the most expensive fireworks show ever and that they have to pay whether the show goes on or not. If this is true at least they are not cancelling the show to save moneyºoº

BTW I have seen the fireworks delayed as much as 20 to 30 minutes. Once the park closed at 10:00 and the fireworks went to completion.
The final decision is up to the Anaheim Fire Department.
