Although Floyd ended up not doing much damage, the uncertainty and stress you experience in advance of the storm do not make for a pleasant vacation. October used to be a good time to visit WDW, but it seems to have gotten very busy over the last half dozen years. I’ve heard that many tour groups are visiting WDW during this period, which as far as I’m concerned makes it a good time to avoid being there. My favorite times to go to WDW are November except for right around Thanksgiving, early December and January. January can be chilly but has the advantage of being the least crowded time of the year.

Low crowds, and the holiday decorations are up.
